South Head Automotive Development Limited was founded in 2002, and is located on the South Kaipara Head peninsula, approximately 60 minutes north-west of Auckland.

We specialise in automotive customisation, including right-drive conversions and specialist engineering modifications for American vehicles.

We fabricate fibreglass dashboards and other componentry, and all converted vehicles are equipped with our custom-built heavy duty right-hand drive steering box

We can also offer one-off vehicle and motor home customising based on customer requirements.

Shade has developed a specialist mirroring machine that is used to manufacture an exact right-hand replica of the original left-hand dashboard.

Our conversion process is comprehensive and offers a number of advantages over standard right-hand drive conversions:

Installation of driver's side footrest for vehicles with automatic transmission
Installation of keyed locks on driver's side door
Conversion of driver's side electric seat mechanisms
Custom-built Cold Air Box option
Windscreen wipers park lower than original position due to mirroring of valance panel- this allows better visibility when driving
Standard big bore Shade steering box on all heavy-duty trucks - these allow original components to be installed if servicing is required
Original dashboard mirrored using our specially-designed mirroring machinery
Vacuum moulded vinyl dashboards to maintain original look
All conversion stages are completed in-house, including machining, fibreglassing, air-conditioning, and wiring

All interior components are custom fabricated on site, and the completed vehicle is virtually indistinguishable from the original. Conversion time is approxmately 3 months for most vehicles.

Due to the difficulty of sourcing high quality steering boxes to use in right-hand drive conversions, we have developed our own customised heavy-duty steering box.

This box uses standard componentry fitted into a mirrored box housing. This allows standard replacement parts to be used during servicing and replicates the original big bore steering box used in heavy-duty American trucks
